NHS England leads the NHS in England. We set the priorities and direction of the NHS and encourage and inform national debate to improve health and care.
As the NHS turns 70 this year, we want everyone to have greater control of their health and wellbeing, and to be supported to live longer, healthier lives by high quality health and care services that are compassionate, inclusive and constantly-improving. Our vision and plans for the future of the NHS are set out in the next steps on the NHS’ Five Year Forward View.
In April 2016, we published the General Practice Forward View which commits to an extra £2.4 billion a year to support general practice services by 2020/21. It will improve patient care and access, and invest in new ways of providing primary care.
NHS England shares out funds and holds organisations to account for spending this money effectively for patients and efficiently for the tax payer.
