Host

Sally Phillips

Sally Phillips has got one of those faces that just makes people laugh. Modestly, she thinks it’s because the corners of her mouth naturally turn up – her hoards of admirers reckon the razor-sharp wit is more of a factor.

Either way, Sally’s face is synonymous with the best of British comedy – Miranda, Smack the Pony, Alan Partridge and Bridget Jones’ Diary – and she has been listed in The Observer as one of the 50 funniest acts on the scene.

Travelling the world as a child with her BA Exec dad, and eventually ‘not fitting in’ at an English boarding school, Sally finally found herself at Oxford, where she gained a First Class Degree in Italian, but more pertinently, spent time nurturing her comedic talents and finding sanctuary on stage.

In Bridget Jones’ Diary she played Shazzer, the wine-guzzling sidekick, and as Miranda Hart’s best friend on the hit sitcom, she feared the ‘always the bridesmaid never the bride syndrome’ would blight her career, but could not have been more wrong.

Instantly recognizable as Tilly in Miranda, and as one of the four female writers and performers on Channel 4’s award-winning comedy sketch show, Smack the Pony, Sally won an Emmy Award for Best Popular Arts Show in 1999 and 2000, and was nominated for Best Comedy Female Newcomer at the British Comedy Awards for her role on the show, and is a British household name.

Other TV credits include a guest star part in E4 drama Skins, the role of Calre Winchester in the BBC 2 sci-fi comedy Hyperdrive, and Tash Vine in the BBC One comedy Jam and Jerusalem, written by Jennifer Saunders and Dawn French. For playing Clare in Radio 4’s sitcom, Clare in the Community since 2004, Sally was awarded a host of awards including the Bronze Comedy Awards at the 2005 Sony Radio Awards.

A talented wordsmith, Sally wrote the film, The Decoy Bride, staring David Tennant, Kelly MacDonald and Alice Eve.

Compère

Alan Dedicoat

Alan Dedicoat is known to millions of viewers as ‘The Voice of the Balls’, providing instant commentary for the National Lottery Draw. He is also the voice of Strictly Come Dancing and joined in the banter with Terry Wogan on his Radio 2 breakfast show.

Alan originally trained to be a lawyer but was seduced by hospital radio into a career in broadcasting. Several years on local stations were followed by a move to London and Radio 2, eventually becoming the network’s Chief Announcer.

As wells as live voice overs and speaking after dinner, Alan is a natural quizmaster. With a stream of quips, he maintains perfect order as he tests teams on everything from MOR hits, national flags and company logos, to knowledge of their industry.
